Tips on Using Drill bushings Correctly
If you're the kind who likes to build things in the basement of garage, it's important that you have all the necessary tools and the knowledge to use to us them. Some of the most useful tools is a drill bushing. Drill bushings are used as a guide for drilling holes in whatever you are working on.
different types of drill bushings
Drill bushings are divided into two kinds, which are:
- Press fit Bushings
With this type of bushing, you may or may not have to use a liner. Typically, they are installed permanently into a jig and can be used with different types of liners that can be easily changed and replaced. Press-fit drill bushings are usually used for holes that are so tight that a drill bushing with liner would be impractical to use.
- Renewable Drill bushings
This type is the one usually used together with liner bushings. Since renewable bushings are used for long-term projects and aren't replaced until they're worn out, they're a lot more potent than press-fit ones. There are two types of renewable drill bushings. These are the fixed and slip renewable bushings.
How to use drill bushings properly
So that you can maximize the advantage that drill bushings confer in making holes, you should determine first what hole or holes you are planning to make. Once this is determined, you should then follow this guide to install drill bushings properly for you to use.
First, use your drilling tool in order to make a hole big enough for the jig plate to fit into. The jig plate will serve as the platform that will support the drill bushings. Make sure that the hole you're going to make should only be slightly wider than the drill bushings' diameter. This way, you'll spare yourself from the hassle of having to push the bushing into place.
Then after drilling the holes needed, position your drill bushings on top of the holes and insert it forward, as far into the hole as you can. Try pushing with your hands first. After pushing it far enough, use a hammer or a rubber mallet to push it further forward into place. Check if the bushings fit snugly into the jig plate to use them properly.
When everything is in place, then you can then proceed with whatever drilling job or building project you have in mind. Remember that whenever a drilling job needs to be done, always position the plate to the specific area where a hole needs to be made.
Things to Remember
Safety should always be a top priority, especially when you're handling potentially dangerous equipment like drills. Secure the drill bushing and jig plates tightly together. Other than creating a safe working environment, this safety measure will also help you finish your job or project efficiently.
